McPherson High’s rampaging wrestling team will try to improve its dual record to 10-1 on Thursday when it travels to arch-rival Buhler.
Mat time is 6 p.m.
The Bullpups are coming off an incredibly busy week, wrestling nine duals over three days. They started with a home double-dual sweep of Chapman and Smoky Valley, then went 6-1 in seven matches at Colby, the only loss to eventual champion Valley Center.
“The amount of wrestling we wrestled last weekend will not affect us,” MHS coach Doug Kretzer said. “We came home healthy, just tired and sore. We'll get that squared away this week.”
MHS and Buhler waged a donnybrook last year in McPherson, with Ethan Grennan’s pin in the final match pulling it out for the Bullpups, 35-32.
“They will be pretty young,” Kretzer said. “They graduated a good group of seniors last year, but they still have some good kids. Coach Juby does a really good job, so I still anticipate Buhler coming after us. It's our first league dual, so it's an important match for us.”
Kretzer said there’s a chance that Buhler could have a couple of open weights, which would make a Crusader victory even more difficult.
The Bullpups head to Abilene on Saturday for a 10-team tournament, which wraps up a busy December.
