MHS grad Houghton earns high honor

EMPORIA — Former McPherson High football standout Marcus Houghton, who just completed his career at Emporia State University, has been selected as a CoSIDA First-Team Academic All-American, the school announced this week.

Houghton, a senior safety for the Hornets, registered 36 tackles, with a season-high 7 tackles against Central Missouri and followed that with 6 tackles against Central Oklahoma. He also had 5 tackles at Northwest Missouri in the season opener.

A business administration major, Houghton carried a 3.97 grade point average.
