As part of its commitment to improve the visitor experience and to ensure longevity of McPherson parks, the City of McPherson is considering implementing park facility fees. Proposed fees would generate much needed revenue for improvements to the aging infrastructure of the park system. This includes shelters, playgrounds, sidewalks, water lines and bathrooms.

“The infrastructure of our parks is aging and is in need of renovation and restoration,” said Director of Public Lands and Facilities Wayne Burns. “User fees will help ensure our parks are protected and preserved, allowing patrons and visitors to enjoy world-class experiences."

The proposal suggests fees be established for shelter rentals and for use of specific locations reserved for special events. Locations include the gazebo and grape arbor at Memorial Park, Swan Court, Rotary International Garden, the Band Shell and disc golf courses. Currently, rental fees are charged for Lakeside Cabin and the Community Building. The proposed new fee structure would be implemented March 1, 2018.

A public comment period has been established from December 26, 2017, through January 15, 2018. The City will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, January 10, 5:30 p.m., in the City Commission Room at the City Offices. Community members are encouraged to attend the meeting and provide feedback regarding the proposed fee structure.
