SALINA — McPherson’s eighth-grade girls basketball team returned from the holiday break in style on Monday by going on the road to sweep Salina South.
The A-girls were a 34-28 winner behind 13 points by Peyton Howard.
“We came out flat in the first half and did not make the plays we were making before the Christmas break,” MMS coach Jay Crawford said. “The third quarter we played much better and had a good lead and once I pulled our halfcourt trap off they got back in the game and we lost our offensive ball movement and pace which we were playing with before.”
The B-team stifled South, 20-10. Howard, in her brief time, scored 10 points.
“This group did not get off to the start like they have in their previous games, but with their ability to play defense it kept them going until they could make some shots,” Crawford said. “Their defense has been good all season, they have only given up 10 points a game, which is really good.”
The Bullpups host Newton on Thursday.
