Tiffany Slechta is going to be very busy during her freshman year at Bethany College.
Slechta, a senior at McPherson High, signed a letter of intent on Wednesday with Bethany for both cheerleading and track and field.
She will cheerlead for the Swedes’ football and basketball teams, then in the spring compete for the Bethany track and field team.
Slechta has been a four-year cheerleader and earned UCA All-American honors for the Bullpups. She has been a cheerleader for both football and basketball and is a team captain. She was part of an MHS cheerleading team that took sixth in the state out of 26 schools competing.
She has competed in the high jump and long jump in track. During her sophomore year, she reached 5-2 in the high jump. Injuries have stalled her progress, but she is hoping to stay healthy and have a big senior season. She said she plans to compete in the high jump, long jump and possibly the javelin for the Swedes.
Slechta feels like Bethany suits her well.
“I feel like a smaller college would be more beneficial for me rather than a bigger college,” Slechta said.
Slechta said Bethany’s scholarship program for McPherson County graduates attracted to her the school and is impressed with the campus, including the new dorms. She also likes the fact the class sizes are smaller, which means more individual attention will be given.
Slectha is planning to major in dental hygiene.
