Hesston girls win; boys' long streak ends

HALSTEAD — The Hesston girls tuned up for next week’s Trojan Classic at Hillsboro by routing Halstead 55-28 Thursday night.

The Swathers jumped on the Dragons right out of the chute, racing to an 18-4 first-quarter lead. It was 28-12 by the half and 47-18 after three quarters.

Elise Kaiser scored 9 points in the first quarter and finished with 22 to lead the Swathers. Kailey Jo Ince supplied 15.

• Halstead boys 50, Hesston 42 — Hesston’s 43-game Central Kansas League winning streak came to an end at the hands of the Dragons, who are 9-1 on the season.

The Swathers, dropping to 8-2, were led by Reese Nebel with 14 points, while Mitchell Martin added 11.

The difference in the game was free throws as the Dragons were 19 of 21 at the stripe and Hesstonw was just 14 of 25.
