DERBY — McPherson’s eighth-grade A-boys doubled up Derby 46-23 in basketball action on Thursday.
Seth Madron led the way with 20 points, while Gus Ruddle just missed doubles with 9.
The B-team was a 31-24 winner behind 8 points by Xavier Sutherlin.
“Even though the A-team won by 20-plus points, I didn't feel we played up to our capabilities,” MMS coach Tyler Brown said. “Both A and B just had way too many turnovers and just played careless basketball. But with weather and not being in our routine of practicing leading up into a Thursday game we managed. Hopefully we can get back into practicing and doing the things that will help us make a run in the league tournament that is just a few weeks away.
“I meant to give a shoutout to coach (Matt) Sandbo in our last home game. He does an outstanding job of giving a steady flow of input of suggestions and ideas of managing players and strategy in the game. His advice and input is much appreciated. As for players the biggest thing I've enjoyed seeing is players starting to do the small things that don't always get noticed. Several players I feel are starting to turn the corner of showing high characteristic not just on the court but off the court as well. More than winning and losing that is where I would love to see the improvement with this group.”
