The Derby Panthers finally ended their Roundhouse jinx.

The Panthers lost to McPherson High here back in December, then dropped their first game of the McPherson Invitational on Thursday.

But today, after trailing 47-46 heading into the fourth quarter, they charged back for a 73-68 victory over Junction City to earn a berth in Saturday’s 3:15 p.m. fifth-place game.

The Panthers were up 32-25 at the half, but Junction City piled up 22 third-quarter points. Derby, though, turned to transfers Tyler Brown and Bryant Mocaby and they propelled the Panthers to the victory as they sparked a 27-point Derby fourth quarter.

Brown finished with 24 points and Mocaby chipped in with 14. Grant Adler also was in double figures with 11. Derby is now 6-4 on the season.

Junction City, which is now 3-8 after its seventh loss in a row, was led by AJ Dickerson with 22 points. Xavier Cason had a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds, Kody Westerhaus came off the bench for 12 and DeAndre Eaves furnished 11.

The Bluejays play for seventh place at 1:30 Saturday against either Wichita North or Blue Valley West.
