Jackie Johnson III wasn’t as good Friday as he was in Thursday’s opening round of the McPherson Invitational, but he didn’t need to be.

Johnson III, who set the Invitational single-game scoring record for a freshman in the opener with 36 points against Shawnee Mission East, scored 25 against Blue Valley West, but he had more help from his teammates in a 60-48 victory.

Johnson III was more of a distributor than a shooter in this game as he displayed the passing facet of his point guard portfolio. Whereas he was 13 of 27 on Thursday, he was an efficient 10 of 18 in this one.

Wichita North will take on Derby in what should be a highly entertaining fifth-place game at 3:15 p.m. Saturday. West goes up against Junction City at 1:30 for seventh place.

The breathtakingly quick Johnson scored 16 points in the first half, but was rested more in the second half. He also dealt out 3 assists.

He received help from Peyton Hatter, who is a nice complement on the inside to go with Johnson’ long-range capabilities. He scored 13 points and Ty Butner had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

North was up 29-20 at the half and continually pushed out the lead after intermission.

O’Mar Stanley, the 6-8 sophomore center bursting with potential, had another strong game for the Jaguars. He had his second straight double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds, as well as 5 blocks. Drake Gammon tallied 10.
