There was no shortage of intensity as both Junction City and Blue Valley West were determined to win their first game of the McPherson Invitational on Saturday to avoid the cellar.

In fact, regulation couldn’t determine a winner.

Spencer Bain’s back-to-back 3-pointers in the final 17 seconds of regulation enabled West to get the game tied, including his rainbow with 2 seconds left that made it 49-all.

But in the overtime, Junction City won the game despite not making a field goal as the Bluejays made 7 of 8 free throws to hang on for a 56-55 victory to claim seventh place.

AJ Dickerson completed a splendid tournament for Junction City with 25 points, giving 64 for the three games. Xavier Cason added 10, along with 8 rebounds.

Junction City never trailed in the overtime. The final margin was somewhat misleading as BVW’s Blake Goodale hit a near midcourt 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Sophomore O’Mar Stanley just missed a third straight double-double for West with a team-high 15 points and 9 rebounds. Goodale and Chris Nordstrom chipped in with 11 apiece.
