HAYS — McPherson High’s Scott Radke could be considered the baddest man at 152 pounds in Kansas.

Radke established himself as a top state championship contender on Saturday when he won that weight class in the Bob Kuhn Prairie Classic hosted by Hays.

Radke won in an ultimate tiebreaker in the finals over Christopher Ball of Hoisington, who had entered the meet as the top overall ranked wrestler in Kansas in the weight division and was 27-0 before Radke handed him his first loss. Ball also is a three-time state finalist and a two-time Class 3-2-1A state champion.

Radke, now 27-2, had won his first two matches by a fall and then decisioned Gage Fritz of Great Bend in a hard-fought semifinal match, 10-8.

The Bullpups, who were without standout 120-pounder Rhett Edmonson, were eighth with 111 points, but with Edmonson they would have had a shot at the Top 3 as the field was bunched tightly.

St. Thomas Aquinas led the way with 156 points. Also ahead of the Bullpups were Garden City (145 1/2), Kapaun (131), Hoisington (125), Campus (122), Pratt (121 1/2) and Salina Central (111 1/2). There were 25 teams overall.

Brynton Crews at 138 and Bailey Yarborough at 195 were third in their respective weight classes, while Landon Crews was fourth at 113. Mason Thrash rounded out the Bullpup placers by taking sixth at 170.
