Hesston's girls edged in tourney finals

HILLSBORO — Clay Center outlasted Hesston High’s girls 44-42 in the finals of the Trojan Classic on Saturday.

Clay Center held a healthy 23-13 lead at the half, but Hesston stormed back by outscoring the Tigers 17-8 in the third quarter and it was game on from there.

The Swathers again banked on the 1-2 punch of Elise Kaiser and Kailey Jo Ince as they scored 15 and 13 points, respectively.

• Hesston boys 79, Sunrise 46 — The Swathers came home with a third-place finish after an easy win.

Reese Nebel had yet another big game for Hesston with 22 points, Ben Bollinger chipped in with 13 and Cameron Cox tallied 12.

Eight Swathers in all scored.
