ANDOVER — It was a pair of huge wins for the McPherson eighth-grade girls on Monday as they routed overmatched Andover.

The A-team was a 53-17 winner as nine players broke into the scoring column, led by Peyton Howard with 15 points.

“Our guards did a great job getting the ball inside and our post finished,” MMS coach Jay Crawford said. “We are doing so much better getting spacing on our set and screening for each other. The more balanced we are with our scoring, the more difficult we will be to guard. Our defense continues to improve as well.”

Speaking of defense, the Bullpups pitched a 46-0 shutout in the B-game. Again, nine players scored, led by Harper Smith with 12.

“Our B-team just continues to improve, they share the ball so well and fundamentally they have improved greatly,” Crawford said. “They are now scoring off of sets and they continue to get good shots for each other. Marissa Pearcy has really improved and the game is starting to slow down for her, which will make this group really hard to guard. Another great defensive performance.”
