WICHITA — The surging Bethany College women had a chance Wednesday to make their biggest statement of the season as they took on KCAC-leading Friends.
Bethany, which had won its last three games and 8 of 10, fell flat at the start, down 21-4 and wound up losing a 76-67 decision.
Bethany is now 9-6 in the KCAC and 13-9 overall.
The Swedes were down 14 after three quarters and did make a charge to make the Falcons sweat, cutting it to 72-67 before Friends scored the game’s final 4 points.
Lauren Welsch, a sure-fire first-team KCAC pick, led the Swedes with 19 points and a whopping 14 rebounds.
The Swedes stay on the road Saturday at Ottawa.
• FRIENDS MEN 75, BETHANY 62 — Jordan Murdock does what Jordan Murdock always does for the Falcons— a double-double.
Friends’ All-America candidate socked the Swedes with a 28-point, 13-rebound performance as the Falcons are now alone in second place in the KCAC at 10-5.
Bethany played the Falcons tough, down just 37-36 at the half, but it was all Falcons in the second half.
Tyler Larkin’s 18 points led the Swedes and Isiah Saenz followed with 16.
The Swedes head to Ottawa on Saturday.
