McPherson’s eighth-grade girls played two dynamite games defensively to sweep Valley Center on Thursday.
The A-team rolled 52-11 behind 13 points apiece by Ella Schmid and Peyton Howard, along with 11 from Lauren Labertew. That improved the team to 9-2.
“The A-Team played a very complete game and our defense was very good and we took them out of everything they wanted to run,” MHS coach Jay Crawford said. “We played tough and did not stop playing with energy. We did a great job attacking their zone defense and I enjoyed how well we got the ball reversed and then attacked the weak side.”
The B-team was a 30-6 winner as Kori Courtney was the top scorer with 7 as the Bullpups were 11-1.
“Our B-team played a awesome game and their effort was great to see and I was so proud of them,” Crawford said. “It is a group that comes to practice and gives it their all. It shows in games and they continue to gain confidence. Each player competes and they buy in to the way I want them to play.”
