VALLEY CENTER — McPherson’s eighth-grade boys seem to be hitting their stride as they polished off Valley Center 53-37 on Thursday behind 18 points apiece by Gus Ruddle and Seth Madron.
“I felt the A-guys played much better as a team,” MMS coach Tyler Brown said as his Bullpups to 8-3. “We also did a good job playing against a zone. I felt Seth and Gus did an excellent job of scoring in the paint against the zone and our perimeter players Jayden Dukes and Michael Morgan did a great job of keeping the ball moving and everyone involved with their passing. We needed to have a game that we felt good about our zone offense.”
The B-team lost 52-35 despite a team-high 11 points from Anthony Brooks.
“They had excellent effort, but we still need to get better at executing multiple things from our playbook,” Brown said. “We let the environment and speed of the game get the better of us. We tend to get sped up and not execute things such as our press breaks, set plays and secondary break. Our vision, passing, and defense is going go need to be much better if we are going to win some B-games."
