WICHITA — McPherson High’s boys were ninth and the girls 18th during a two-day bowling tournament hosted by Wichita North that was completed on Saturday.
“I am pleased with how the kids listened and gave a 110 percent effort,” MHS coach Herb Halinski said. “It was a very challenging condition. Only three of the boys have ever bowled on a sport condition and you had to be very accurate and be able to repeat every shot the same. If you missed your target left, it hooked a lot and if you missed right it didn't hook at all. Opposite for the two left-handers (Dylan Krehbiel and Matt Gesaman). For the most part they made most of the spares, but had some bad breaks the last two games and just missed 8th. Clayton (Ouellette) had the overall high game (279) of the tournament. Finally matched up the right ball to the condition and he was off to the races.”
It was a challenging tournament for the girls due to their inexperience.
“Only three of the girls have been bowling since the start of this season, so it was a good result for the lack of experience,” Halinski said. “The lane condition was more challenging for the girls in general as they typically do not have as much equipment as the boys for different patterns. Both the girls and boys have been improving all season. We will continue to work on spares and getting ready for regionals.”
The Bullpups will be hosting an invitational on Thursday at Starlite Lanes with a 3:00 starting time.
