ROSE HILL — McPherson High wrestling coach Doug Kretzer often talks about how his team is built to be good in duals.

It’s also not too bad in tournaments.

The 10th-ranked Bullpups, coming off a key dual win on Thursday over No. 5-ranked El Dorado, placed second this weekend in the Rose Hill Invitational in a very large field.

The Bullpups scored 154 points to finish only behind Bonner Springs, which tallied 172 1/2.

Derby was third with 150, with the Top 5 rounded out by Andover Central (127) and Valley Center (123 1/2). There were 23 teams in all.

The Bullpups did not have any individual champions, but more than half of their team earned places in this solid meet as their consistency vaulted them up the team standings.

Scott Radke was the highest placer, taking second at 152. He won his first three matches before losing to Derby’s potential Class 6A state champion Cade Lindsey 11-1 in the finals. Lindsey is 32-2 on the year, Radke is 32-3.

Rhett Edmonson at 120, Jonah Clarke at 145, Mason Thrash at 170 and Bailey Yarborough at 195 all brought home third place. Brynton Crews was fourth at 138, while Landon Crews at 113 and Luke Thompson at 182 were sixth.
