Baseball Bulldogs split, now 5-1

AUSTIN, Texas — McPherson College’s baseball team ran its season-opening winning streak to five games before losing the second game of a twinbill Saturday with Texas College.

The Bulldogs won the opener 14-4 before losing Game 2 11-7 as they are now 5-1 on the year.

• Mac 14, Texas College 4 — The Bulldogs broke open a close game with 9 runs in the fifth inning.

Matthew Green was the winning pitcher for the Bulldogs, who also had a 5-run inning.

The Bulldogs pinged it around for eight singles, two each by Trevor Haycock and Lane Fleming. Mark Strebin, Reily Martin and Bryce Strecker knocked in two runs each.

• Texas College 11, Mac 7 — The Bulldogs got off to a strong start, up 5-3, but adversity hit for the first time this year as Texas College erupted for six runs in the fourth.

Dylan Fontenot homered and doubled in defeat. Evan Willow and Brevin Baessler hit doubles.

Coach Bryan Moses employed five pitchers in the contest.

Mac is playing today at Jarvis College.
