HUTCHINSON — McPherson’s eighth-grade boys are one victory away from the Pioneer League Tournament basketball championship.
The Bullpups advanced to the finals on Tuesday by overcoming a hostile environment to outlast Hutchinson, 49-41.
Seth Madron and Gus Ruddle topped the Bullpups with 23 and 14 points, respectively.
“Playing Hutchinson at Hutchinson is no small task,” MMS coach Tyler Brown said. “I was proud of our guys tonight. We have had sickness and flu, just a variety of things happen since the week before Pioneer League tournament. We were still missing guys tonight and we also just had guys playing that had been sick this week. We have definitely played through adversity. Our offense is coming around though and we are shooting the ball much better as of late compared to the beginning of the season.”
The Bullpups will take on Salina Lakewood for the championship on Thursday.
“Our defense and our mentality of valuing the basketball will need to be much better if we are going to beat Lakewood in the finals Thursday,” Brown said.
