Tiger men nearly pull another upset

PLAINVIEW, Texas — Central Christian College’s men’s basketball team came close to pulling off another monster upset on Thursday.

The Tigers, who upset No. 7-ranked University of Science and Arts on Saturday, took 20th-ranked Wayland Baptist down to the wire on the road before losing a 64-60 decision after the game was tied at 60-all with 48 seconds left.

Cam Martin led Central with 15 points, Paul Ard II scored 14 and Kendric Warren had 12, along with 8 rebounds.

The Tigers were halfway home to the upset, leading 33-29 at the break.

Central, now 5-10 in the Sooner Athletic Conference and 12-11 overall, plays Saturday at Panhandle State.

• WAYLAND BAPTIST WOMEN 95, CENTRAL 59 — The Tigers played the No. 6-ranked Flying Queens closer than the first meeting when it was a 56-point margin.

Central came out on fire, leading 20-18 after the quarter and the upset alert was out. But the Queens blasted away for 60 points over the next two quarters, including a 35-12 rip in the third quarter.

Holly Golden scored 18 to lead CCC, while Abbie Banks had 15 and Ridglea Hearne chipped in with 13. Golden, Kassidy Forsberg and Vestiney Cooke all snagged 10 rebounds.

Central is now 0-15 in the SAC, 1-22 overall. It plays at Panhandle on Saturday.
