McPherson High’s boys swimming team will be favored to repeat on Saturday when the AVCTL Division II-III-IV Championships are contested at El Dorado.
The Bullpups are having an historic season, having won eight of 10 meets they have entered, while finishing second in the other two. They have taken on all comers, going up against the best teams in Kansas regardless of class.
“We are hoping to add another league championship to last year’s,” MHS coach Matt Morrow said.
Andover, Andover Central, Wichita Collegiate, El Dorado, Maize South, Rose Hill and Winfield are the schools in the field.
“We have swam against all of these teams several times during the season and have finished well against them,” Morrow said. “The format is a little different than regular-season meets as each team is allowed four swimmers in every event and only one relay. With the depth that we have this year and our A-relays, I feel like we should be able to score well. Based on what we’ve seen so far, I think Maize South and Andover Central will be two of the stronger teams we will face.”
Meet time is 9 a.m.
