The wind was blowing out — way out — of the new Bulldog Park on Sunday.
That led to an offensive feast by both McPherson College and Kansas Wesleyan in a single KCAC baseball game.
Mac outlasted KW 13-12 to win the series as the teams had split on Saturday.
“When you play in conditions like this, a lot of times, it's going to be who can outlast who," Mac coach Bryan Moses said. "We got a huge hit from Trevor Haycock in the bottom of the eighth to add two more runs, and — without that hit — I think we're talking about a different result right now. We got the big hits when it counted late."
Mac seemingly had a safe lead though six innings as it was up 10-4, but KW scored 8 runs over the final 3 innings. A 3-run eighth gave the Bulldogs the cushion they needed.
Dominick Ramos and Lane Fleming went yard for the Bulldogs. Haycock was 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs. Ramos was 3 for 5 with 4 RBIs and Fleming was 3 for 5 with 3 RBIs.
Luke Whitfield was the winner, with Tyler Dunn earning a save.
Mac is now 12-3 overall. It goes to Oklahoma Wesleyan for a three-game series that starts Friday in Bartlesville. The Eagles are nationally ranked and the favorite to win the KCAC.
