McPherson Police Chief Robert McClarty gave an update at Monday’s City Commission meeting regarding the development of placing a School Resource Officer (SRO) within McPherson USD 418.
“Currently, just so everyone’s aware of it, we’re in the process of discussions for a School Resource Officer and have been for several months working with the administration and coming closer to a resolution on that,” McClarty said.
McClarty and the McPherson PD have also been working with the school district to prepare for lockdown situations, especially after the school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida on Feb. 14.
“We’ve also been actively working on resources and training for lockdown procedures and keeping our kids safe,” McClarty said. “We’ve been working with the administration for a plan to do those discussions as recent as last week, but that got ramped up a little bit. We have some discussions and presentations scheduled within the next couple weeks.”
