SALINA — McPherson High’s track and field team went up against the best of the best on Friday in the Salina Central Invitational, a field that included many of the top teams in Class 6A and 5A.
“We fought like crazy last night at the toughest meet we will go to all year,” MHS coach Jace Pavlovich said. “It was a great experience for our kids to compete against the quality competition. We are ready to get back into action next week at our league meet.”
The Bullpup girls were a creditable third with 73 points, trailing sprinter-rich Junction City (118) and Hutchinson (90).
MHS’ Elle Barrett recorded her usual double by winning the long jump (17-4 1/4) and triple jump (37-7 1/4). Emma Ruddle stayed strong, winning the 100 hurdles (14.76).
MHS had a 1-2-3 in the triple jump as Autumn Allen was second and Kenzie Goering was third. Goering had a third in the long jump as well.
The MHS boys ran into some incredible athletes as the Bullpups wound up scoring 38 1/5 points. Manhattan powered its way to 117 1/5 to take first.
Devin Cape was third in the triple jump and the 4 x 100 relay team of Brandon Yowell, Kollin Goering, Talyn Huff and Jace Kinnamon was third as well.
