HOISINGTON — Smoky Valley’s baseball season came to an end on Tuesday, but not before it went down after putting up a good fight.
The Vikings lost a 13-11 decision to Russell in the Class 4A Division II regional after being down 9-3 after four innings. They scored four runs in both the fifth and sixth innings, but could not muster a final rally.
Brett Heitschmidt went out in a blaze of glory as the senior was 4 for 4 with a double. Brandon Malm also had a monster day, smashing a three-run homer and two-run double for five RBIs.
The Vikings ended the year with a 6-15 record.
