Volunteers from the McPherson College football team recently assisted McPherson Main Street with preparing Christmas wreaths for the Downtown District. According to Ann Engel, McPherson Main Street Executive Director, the students replaced more than 2,250 light bulbs on 45 wreaths. Employees from Reach Solutions, Inc. and McPherson Main Street committee members also assisted with the project. “Without the help of volunteers, I honestly don’t know how this project would have been accomplished,” said Engel. “When the wreaths are lit, I hope all involved will realize how they helped share the Christmas spirit by working together.”
Each year the wreaths are hung in Downtown McPherson to promote holiday shopping. Purchased in 2006, the wreaths originally operated with incandescent lighting. This year’s project focused on switching to LED lighting and cost $2,500. Local businesses providing financial support included Emprise Bank, First Bank Kansas, Graber’s Ace Hardware, Home State Bank, Peoples Bank & Trust, Sunflower Bank and Walmart.
McPherson Main Street continues to seek funds to replace larger bulbs used to illuminate the trio of candles in the center of each wreath. Interested donors can call 620.241.7430.
