As winter continues, temperatures will continue to drop. With this, the risk of slick spots from ice and snow on the roadways increases. We would like to remind everyone to add a few extra minutes to your drive time, decrease your speed, and brake early, to help avoid accidents.
In summary, Standard Traffic Ordinance (STO) Sec. 32, which is the Basic Speed Rule states: No person shall drive a vehicle at a speed greater than is reasonable and prudent under the conditions which exist. Every person shall drive at a safe speed when approaching intersections, crosswalks, railroad grade crossings, curves, hill crests, narrow road ways and special hazards such as pedestrians, traffic, and weather conditions.
As always, our desire is to help increase safety and reduce the number of accidents on our roadways. This winter, remember to allow yourself extra time when driving, slow down, and brake early.
