The Don Jones Courage Award, given by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association, is staying in McPherson.
Last year MHS’ Taylor Robertson and Mandi Cooks were honored and this year, Bullpup girls coach Chris Strathman is the recipient.
Strathman will be honored on June 22 in Salina as part of the KBCA Weekend.
“This is a great honor to receive, and I would like to thank those that nominated and selected me for the Don Jones Courage Award for 2019,” Strathman said. “Of course this was due to the difficult start to the season with my cancer diagnosis and surgery/recovery, etc. I am just so blessed to have received the care that I did and that everything was as successful as possible. Taylor and Mandi won this award last year for the things that they had to fight through. They give this out each year to a boy/girl/coach, so it is a neat award that is given out by the KBCA. I thank them for recognizing those who have had to go through adversity during the last year or recently in their career.”
Strathman led the Bullpups to a 21-3 record and fourth-place finish in the Class 5A State Tournament. MHS, of course, was the Class 4A state title winner in 2018.
