Central Christian College’s women’s soccer team stormed back with two goals in the last 10 minutes to rally for a 3-2 victory on Wednesday over crosstown rival McPherson College at Tiger Field.
Mariah Godinez tied the game for CCC with 10 minutes left, off an assist by Alyssa Emery. Four minutes later, Alexa Riddle scored the game-winner off an assist by Allison Harper.
Riddle had assisted on Rachel Schlagel’s goal 10 minutes into the game to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead before Ashley Esquivel evened the scored, assisted by Jordan Bruner.
In the second half, Bruner – the McPherson High grad—scored off an assist by Dina Der Vartanian to give Mac a 2-1 lead.
The Bulldogs had to feel like they let one get away as they had a decisive 16-9 advantage in shots, but CCC goalie Goldie Bougher was up to the task with 8 saves.
The victory improved the Tigers to 3-1, but they have a huge test on Saturday with a 2 p.m. home game against No. 9-ranked Hastings.
The 0-4 Bulldogs then host Hastings at 11 a.m. Sunday.
