McPherson College’s Joey Powers was named the KCAC’s Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for his performances in last week’s games.
Powers, a 6-5 forward, led McPherson to a 1-1 record. He scored 36 points on 15-18 (83.3 percent) field goals, 2-3 (66.7) 3-point field goals, and 4-4 (100) free throws, with 21 total rebounds (nine offensive and 12 defensive), two assists, one steal and two blocks.
In Mac's 92-54 win against Bethel, he scored 17 points on 7-10 field goals, 1-2 3-point field goals, and 2-2 free throws, with 12 total rebounds (five offensive and seven defensive), two assists and one steal.
In his team's 93-80 loss at Saint Mary, he scored 19 points on 8-13 field goals, 1-1 3-point field goals, and 2-2 free throws, with nine total rebounds (four offensive and five defensive) and two blocks.
On the season, Powers is averaging 13.67 points per game on 69-121 (57.0) field goals, 8-23 (34.8) 3-point field goals, and 18-33 (54.5) free throws, with 6.42 rebounds, 2.17 assists, 0.33 steals and 0.92 blocks per game. He is 4th in the KCAC in offensive rebounds with 2.83 per game
He ranks 4th in conference and 41st in NAIA Division II in field goal percentage with 69-121 (57.0), is 11th in the conference in total rebounds with 6.42 per game, 4th in the conference and 45th in the NAIA Division-II in offensive rebounds with 2.83 per game, and is tied for 3rd in the conference and 43rd in the NAIA D-II in total blocks with 11.
