McPherson High’s boys remain No. 4 in Class 4A Division I this week in the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association poll, while the Bullpup girls dropped four spots to No. 8 after their season-opening loss to No. 3-ranked (5A) Salina Central.

The MHS boys, who outlasted Salina Central 61-58 in their opener, trail Kansas City Piper, Kansas City Sumner and Basehor-Linwood.

Wamego leads the 4A Division I girls, and other teams ahead of MHS are Fort Scott, Paola, Andover Central, Miege, Topeka Hayden and DeSoto.

Ironically, Washburn Rural — which hosts MHS on Friday — has both of its teams ranked. The Rural boys are No. 4 and the girls are No. 7 in Class 6A.

Meanwhile, Hesston — which has yet to open its season — is ranked No. 1 in 3A girls and No. 2 in the boys.

The Moundridge girls are No. 6 in Class 2A and the boys are No. 7.
