LINDSBORG — Erin Newport, from Fontana, has signed a letter of intent to play softball at Bethany College for the 2014-2015 academic year.
Newport, a middle infielder, comes to Bethany from Prairie View High School in LaCygne, where she played softball, basketball and volleyball all four years.
Last high school softball season, Newport recorded a .541 batting average with a .592 on-base percentage and .770 slugging percentage. In 61 at-bats, she amassed 22 singles, eight doubles, three triples, 23 runs and 26 runs batted in.
"We are excited to add Erin Newport to our program," Bethany coach Janice Esses said. "She is the type of person that is not afraid of hard work and wants to get better every day. Erin's speed makes her a threat on the bases. We look forward to working with her and watching her develop as a person and player."
Newport is the daughter of Shelly and Chris Newport. She has a 3.4 high school grade point average, and plans to major in elementary and special education.
