Preliminary projections indicate a potential $28,623 shortfall for this year’s United Way of McPherson County campaign.

According to Anne Kirchner, executive director, the agency has secured $196,377 in pledges toward the $225,000 goal. “But we’re not giving up,” said Kirchner. “This year’s goal is ambitious but reflects the true needs of our community. We must reach the goal to assist our partner agencies.”

Funds raised through the annual United Way campaign remain in the local community and are used to provide grants to agencies providing critical human service programs throughout McPherson County. Each agency must demonstrate financial need for specific programs addressing health, education and financial stability.

During 2013 United Way funds assisted more than 20 programs involving over 9,800 individuals associated with American Red Cross, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boy Scouts of America, The Children’s Center, CASA: A Voice for Children, Inc., Child Start, Circles of McPherson County, Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland, Heart to Heart Child Advocacy Center, McPherson County Council on Aging, McPherson Family Life Center, McPherson Family YMCA, McPherson Special Olympics, Meals on Wheels, Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Center, The Salvation Army and United Cerebral Palsy of Kansas.

“The annual campaign incorporates a collaborative donor base including individuals, small businesses, corporations and service organizations,” noted Craig Druecker who has served as campaign chair for the past three years. “It takes the financial commitment of many to uplift the work of United Way.”

According to Druecker one hundred percent of funds raised during the campaign remain in McPherson County. “Our priority is to promote positive change that is accomplished through broad community participation and collaboration.”

“We are fortunate to live in a community that is passionate about meeting the ongoing needs of its residents,” Kirchner added. “As we enter the final stage of the campaign, I hope community members will rally behind us and make an investment in the lives of others.”
