SALINA — McPherson’s seventh-grade A-girls were held in check for the first time this season, as Salina Lakewood ended the Bullpups’ winning streak at 10 with an 18-12 victory.

“We could not get any of our shots to fall,” MMS coach Jacque Gehrt said. “We got good looks, they just weren't falling. I'm proud that the girls didn't give up and kept fighting until the end.”

Claire Yowell’s four points were tops.

The B-team improved to 8-1 with a 32-9 rout, keyed by a sterling first-half defensive effort that saw the Bullpups not allow a point.

Alaina Diggs’ eight points were tops.

“Great team effort tonight. The girls passed well and were unselfish with the ball,” Gehrt said.

The Bullpups return to Lakewood on Saturday.
