Moundridge boys basketball coach Vance Unrau called it “ugly.”

But he could also call it a victory.

The Wildcats remained unbeaten at 3-0 Thursday night by outlasting the Lyons Lions 44-40 in the second round of the Moundridge Preseason Tournament.

It was a white-knuckler all the way. MHS was down 20-19 at halftime, but inched ahead 29-26 after three quarters.

Hunter Enyart nailed down the win by making 6 of 6 free throws in the fourth quarter.

Garrett Higgins drained four 3-pointers to lead Moundridge with 12 points. Enyart and Colton Frazer scored 10 points apiece.

Moundridge plays Hillsboro tonight in a battle of teams that are 2-0 in tourney play.

• Moundridge girls 34, Lyons 33 — The Wildcat girls were in trouble after three quarters.

Moundridge trailed 31-21 and appeared headed for its first loss in three games.

But the Wildcats clamped down on the defensive end and outscored the Lions 13-2 over the final eight minutes to pull out the emotional victory.

Brooke Holloway led a balanced Moundridge offense with nine points. The Wildcats will have a major test tonight when they play Hillsboro.

The Teutons, who were down 23-16 at the half, fell to 1-2.
