BC's Baird 1st at Jet Classic

WICHITA  — There was no rest for the Bethany College wrestling team.

After competing Saturday at York (see earlier post), the Swedes went to Wichita Sunday for the Newman University Jet Classic.

Bethany finished fifth out of nine teams.

Five wrestlers placed at the Jet Invitational: juniors Colt Rogers, Colby Crank, Jordon Ward, Matt Atwood and Taylor Baird.

Baird placed first in the 197 division. He won by fall at 2:26, won by 6-0 decision and won by fall at 2:42.

In the 149 division, Crank finished third. He won by 9-4 decision, won by 15-5 decision and won by injury default.

Ward took third in the 165 division, winning by a 3-2 decision and injury default.

Rogers placed fourth in the 141 division. He won by 16-6 decision and 6-4 decision.

In the 174 division, Atwood finished fourth. He won by fall at 0:44 and won by 11-0 division.

Results for the Invitational are as follows:

125: Quinton Harrison, 0-2

133: James Lohman, 0-2

141: Colt Rogers, 2-2, 4th place

149: Colby Crank, 3-1, 3rd place

157: Jonathan Blackwell, 1-2

165: Jordon Ward, 2-1, 3rd place

174: Matt Atwood, 2-2, 4th place

184: Trevor Whittaker, 0-2

197: Taylor Baird, 3-0, 1st place

285: Zach Anderson, 1-2

"We are improving and the culture of our organization is developing in a positive way," Bethany coach Jacob Marrs said. "We have a short week to prepare for our dual at Mesa but our group is excited for the chance to compete and finish off the semester on a positive note."

The Swedes next compete at the Colorado Mesa Dual at Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, Colo. on Thursday.
