LINDSBORG — Bethany College’s Idris Ibn Idris has been named the KCAC Player of the Week after a remarkable two-game performance last Thursday and Saturday.
Idris, a 6-5 guard, scored 35 points and snagged nine rebounds in an 86-81 Swedes’ win against Ottawa University on Dec. 12. He also scored the game-winning points against Ottawa.
Two nights later, Idris recorded 36 points and eight assists in a 108-91 overtime victory against Southwestern College.
Idris is currently averaging 26.3 points per game, shooting 56 percent from the field, 47.4 percent from 3-point range, and 80.6 percent from the free throw line. He is also averaging 6.5 rebounds per game, 3.3 assists per game and 1.45 steals per game.
"The thing we like most about Idris is he can make an ESPN-level play and you wouldn't know it by watching him,” Bethany coach Clair Oleen said. "He is so humble and doesn't draw that attention to himself. The thing about Idris is he can score in so many ways. He can get to the rim, shoot midrange, shoot free throws and he can pass the ball. That is a testament to his eight assists to only one turnover Saturday night."
The Swedes are currently 4-0 in the KCAC and 8-3 overall. They return to action on Dec. 20-21 at the Johnson and Wales Classic at Johnson and Wales University in Denver, Colo. Bethany faces Northern New Mexico College at 3 p.m. Friday. The Swedes finish the tournament with a matchup against Johnson and Wales University on Saturday at 3 p.m.
