McPherson Fire Chief Jeff Deal announced at Monday's City Commission meeting that the fire department has secured a grant with assistance from Safe Kids for smoke detectors to be installed in homes in McPherson that contain children.

Deal said, "We are in the process of researching and purchasing smoke detectors. We are looking at purchasing a ten year life smoke detector. The Fire Department will be responsible for installing the detectors in their proper place. Once we get them installed, they should be pretty much maintenance free for ten years."

The Fire Department is still determining along with Safe Kids the best process to get those smoke detectors into McPherson homes. When we know the procedure fully, we will post it here and talk about it on KBBE.
