HUTCHINSON — Welcome back, Austin Eldredge.

After missing the first month of the wrestling season with a hand injury, McPherson High’s 106-pound freshman made a spectacular debut Saturday in the Hutchinson Round-Robin Tournament.

Eldredge went 3-0 to emerge as the top wrestler in his weight class.

“He wrestled well for his first time on the mat as a high school wrestler,” MHS coach Doug Kretzer said.

Cole Kretzer was the other MHS standout on the day, going 2-0 at 113.

The Bullpups were open at four weights, which led to them taking fifth against big-school competition. Hutchinson led the way with 37 1/2 points, followed by Emporia (35 1/2), Salina South (30), Topeka Seaman (20) and MHS (15.5).

MHS returns to dual action Thursday with a Division III match at Buhler, then goes to Maize on Saturday.
