When McPherson High’s boys take to the court here Tuesday against Buhler, they’ll do so with a shiny, new No. 1 state ranking in Class 4A Division I.

The Bullpups, who haven’t played since Dec. 16, ascended to the top spot in today’s KBCA rankings.

Coffeyville is right behind at No. 2, with the rest of the Top 10 including Baldwin, Basehor-Linwood, Ottawa, El Dorado, Kansas City Piper, Labette County, Spring Hill and Paola. Tuesday’s opponent, Buhler, is not ranked despite being 3-2 and owning a win over No. 6 El Dorado.

Hesston’s boys remain No. 2 in Class 3A, trailing Wichita Collegiate. Right behind Hesston is Silver Lake, with Beloit and Eurkea rounding out the Top Five.

Moundridge’s boys are No. 7 in Class 2A, which is headlined by St. John. Hillsboro, which is in the Wildcats’ sub-state, is No. 5.

Meanwhile, if the Buhler girls needed any more motivation for Tuesday’s game at the Roundhouse, it came today with the release of the new rankings.

The Crusaders are 5-0 and ranked No. 10 in Class 4A Division I. McPherson High, despite being 1-3, is two spots ahead at No. 8.

Wamego remains on top, followed by Fort Scott, Paola, Independence, Miege, Topeka Hayden and Ottawa. In between MHS and Buhler at No. 9 is Andover Central.

Hesston’s girls remain No. 1 in Class 3A, followed by Riley County, Cimarron, Holcomb and Marysville.

The Moundridge girls are No. 7 in Class 2A. Hillsboro, which is in the Wildcats’ sub-state, is No. 1.
