McPherson College’s basketball teams return to conference play Thursday when they make the half-hour trip to Hillsboro to take on Tabor College.
The women play at 6 p.m., with the men at 8. There will be no radio coverage due to the McPherson High-Hutchinson games being played on the same night.
The women’s game matches teams that are tied for second place in the KCAC at 3-1, both a game back of 4-0 Southwestern.
The Mac women returned to action last weekend losing a pair of games in the McPherson College January Classic, including a buzzer-beater against Dakota State. The Bulldogs struggled offensively in that game, as well as Saturday’s game against Haskell when they scored only 42 points. The double dip dropped Mac’s record to 7-9 overall.
Tabor was picked by many as the top challenger to overwhelming preseason favorite Southwestern. The Bluejays are 8-6 overall, as they played an extremely difficult nonconference schedule.
In the men’s game, the Bulldogs are in the danger zone as far as the conference race goes. They are 1-3, including a giveaway overtime loss to Sterling that has had a profound impact on their contending status.
Mac is 8-8 overall, winning 112-105 in double-overtime on Saturday against Haskell after losing a two-point decision the night before to Baker.
Tabor is 2-2 in the KCAC, with the losses to Sterling and Bethany. The Bluejays, 9-6 overall, played Haskell on Monday and pounded the Indians 96-73, their third straight win since the calendar turned to 2014.
Both Mac teams are back home on Saturday to play Kansas Wesleyan. Game times are 5 and 7 p.m., with KBBE coverage starting at 4:45.
