Maybe the McPherson High wrestling team can hitch a ride on the emotional wave of the basketball team’s success of Tuesday against Buhler.
The Bullpups will be back on the mat Thursday night when they travel to Buhler for a 6 p.m. dual. MHS’ last action was Saturday when it competed in a five-team event hosted by Hutchinson. Austin Eldredge at 106 and Cole Kretzer at 113 turned in undefeated days to highlight MHS’ performances.
“It will be a tough dual for us,” MHS coach Doug Kretzer said. “Buhler always has good numbers out for their team and they have a couple of state placers back from last year. They should be very tough at 113, 152, 220 and 285.”
Kretzer is hoping his team can start to make some strides as it wants to peak about the time regionals begin.
“We've had a really good week of practice,” he said. “I'm excited to see how it translates to competition this week. We're going to need some kids to step up and wrestle above how they've been wrestling to this point if we want to have a shot at winning the dual. We are to the point in the season where it's time to step up and make that jump in level.”
MHS has a busy week as it also competes Saturday in the rugged Maize Invitational.
