The high school swim teams of McPherson and Smoky Valley, along with the summer swimmers on both the McPherson Aqua Pups and the Lindsborg Wave Breakers, are joining together to host a fund-raiser for the Mija Stockman family.

Mija, a highly popular teacher in the local school system, was critically injured in a recent car wreck and currently is at Via Christi-St. Francis Hospital in Wichita where she has been in a coma.

So far the response has been very good. Local swim coach Bonnie Sue Fisher is encouraging at least 60 swimmers to raise one hundred dollars apiece. Each person raising the appropriate amount will receive a T-shirt with the words "I Swam My Tail Off for Mija.”

”I have gotten the word out to all swimmers and to the families of the kids I teach lessons to in the summer at my house,” Fisher said.
