LINDSBORG — Sydney DeLong has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Bethany College.
DeLong, a 5-8 guard, comes to Bethany from Northern Heights High School. She started on the varsity basketball team her sophomore through senior year. In addition, DeLong started as a setter on the varsity volleyball team her sophomore through senior year.
Her junior year of basketball, DeLong tallied 10 points per game, four rebounds per game, two steals, and two assists. She shot 36 percent from field goal range, 38 percent from the 3-point arc, and 65 percent from the free throw line.
"We are excited to announce that Sydney DeLong has signed a letter of intent to join the Swedes women's basketball program," Bethany coach Brett Morehouse said. "Sydney is a great addition to the Bethany community and there is no doubt that she will excel both on and off the court. Sydney has had a successful high school career, starting as a varsity player in both volleyball and basketball since her sophomore season. Her basketball team is off to a great start this year, and Sydney is playing a significant role in their success. We feel that she will truly begin to tap into her potential as a basketball player once she gets to the next level and is able to focus her time and effort on one sport."
DeLong is the daughter of Darryl and Brelana DeLong. She has a 3.89 high school grade point average, and plans to major in math education.
