McPherson College's Rea Samuels has been named Week 1 KCAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week.

Samuels was selected from a pool of nominees by vote of conference Sports Information Directors for her performance at the Ward Haylett Invitational on Saturday.

Samuels is a sophomore from Williston, Fla. Her strong showing at the Ward Haylett Invitational yielded a second-place finish and a school record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.98. She also finished fourth out of 23 runners in the 200, posting a time of 26.64. Samuels was a mere 0.13 seconds off from the NAIA's "B" standard in the 60m dash.

Following a strong showing at the KCAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships a year ago, three firsts and a third-place finish, Samuels is off to a fast start and has proven that she will be a force to be reckoned come the indoor championships in February.
