McPherson’s seventh-grade girls turned up the defensive heat here Tuesday, stifling Salina Lakewood during a 40-12 victory, avenging their only loss of the year in the process.
The Bullpups are now 13-1. Lauren Hein’s 15 points led the way.
“Tonight we were able to avenge our only loss of the year by using relentless pressure,” MMS coach Jacque Gehrt said. “Lauren Hein had the hot hand tonight, scoring 15 points. I am so proud of the girls' aggressiveness tonight and their ability to share the ball.”
The B-team is now 11-1 after slamming the door defensively as well, 30-8. Meghan Smith and Brooke Miller shared scoring honors with six points apiece.
“It was a total team effort tonight, as all but two players scored,” Gehrt said. “All of these girls continue to impress me with their defense and teamwork.”
