It’s looking more and more like the Manhattan girls are going to be the top seed for the upcoming Mid America Classic, set for Jan. 30-Feb. 1 at the storied Roundhouse.
Manhattan is 6-1 on the year and has two games left before the pairings are announced on Jan. 22.
Shawnee Mission South is No. 2 with a 4-3 record.
McPherson High, Andale and Wichita Northwest are all 4-4. Gardner-Edgerton and Olathe East are 3-5 and Hays is assured of being the eighth seed at 0-8.
The Bullpups’ remaining games before the pairings are at El Dorado Friday and at home Tuesday against Circle, so they have a shot at being one of the top seeds.
The field has flipped considerably since last year. Shawnee Mission South, Wichita Northwest, Olathe East and Gardner-Edgerton are in, while Valley Center, Wichita Southeast, Dodge City and defending champion Olathe South are out. South has won the tournament in all three of its appearances.
