Emler resigns Senate seat, replacement will be voted on in McPherson

Senator Jay Emler, Republican State Senator of the 35th District was recently appointed to the Kansas Corporation Commission and has resigned his seat as Senator of the Kansas 35th District.

A convention of the Republicans of the 35th District will be held January 30th at 7pm at the McPherson Opera House, 219 S. Main, McPherson, to elect the Senator's temporary replacement.  Republican precinct committee persons from the seven-county area in District 35 will elect the new senator and McPherson County GOP will get to host the event, said Dave Bohnenblust, McPherson County GOP chairman.

McPherson County has the largest Republican voting bloc in the 35th District which includes the counties of Chase, Dickinson, Ellsworth, Marion, Morris, McPherson and Rice. 

"We want to congratulate Senator Emler on his appointment to the KCC and his 13 years of faithful service in the Kansas Senate," said Lori Shultz, Vice Chair of the McPherson County GOP. 

This newly elected Senator will serve until Jan 2015.   There will be a special election for this position in November of 2014.
