JUNCTION CITY — Junction City’s towering seventh-grade boys, whose lineup included players who were 6-3 and 6-0, handed McPherson only its second loss of the year Thursday, 33-28.

“I really liked the way our kids competed,” said MMS coach Treg Fawl, whose team is now 8-2. “Junction City had a 6-3 kid and a 6-0 kid that was a challenge to play against. We definitely had our chances. We were only 4 of 12 from the free throw line and I think their length bothered us on quite a few shots. Overall I was extremely pleased with the way the kids competed. We were diving all over the floor and going toe-to-toe with their big guys on the glass.”

Kyler Hoppes topped the Bullpups with 13 points.

The B-team evened its record at 5-5 with a 44-34 triumph. Jarrod Nowak’s 16 points sparked the victory.

MMS A (28) — Hoppes 13, Hoover 6, Kinnamon 5, Alexander 3, Wilson 1.

MMS B (44) — Nowak 16, Brossard 7, Whittker 7, Avila 6, Lawrence 3, Strawn 2, Brewer 2, Farney 1.
